Read Hebrews 4:14-16
Today, in your own words (based on verses 14-16), write down how you explain to an unbeliever or a child how/why we can approach the throne of grace with confidence. After you are finished writing, go before the Lord in prayer and ask him to help you through this Lenten season to gain the power over whatever sin or weakness you are trying to overcome. Ask with confidence for that help today!

  1. Would anyone mind sharing how to explain approaching the throne? I know we can because of His mercy and grace but I can't seem to find the words to explain why or how.

  2. Pastor will be describing this a little in his sermon on Sunday. The author is talking to Jews who would understand that reference as approaching the "Throne" in the holy of holies whic is the innermost part of the temple. This is the place where only the high priest could go to make sacrifice for the people. Typically the high priest went in with much fear and trepidation because if he entered into that place "unclean" in any way (physically or spiritually) he would fall dead. The author to the Hebrews is trying to say that we can now approach the throne of grace (the implication is through prayer that does not need to be in the temple), knowing that Christ has made it possible for us to speak directly to God. When you speak to God in prayer, we approach, knowing that he is a consuming fire, but also knowing that he understands our weaknesses and is ready to give of his mercy and grace. When you pray - pray boldly.
